Inside the Wedding Week: A Florist’s Perspective

Planning a wedding involves countless moving parts, and flowers remain one of the most transformative details of the day. At Estúdyo, a Melbourne-based wedding florist, we believe your floral story deserves as much care and thought as the day itself. So, from sourcing the freshest in-season flowers in Victoria to carefully styling every arrangement at your venue, here’s a peek behind the scenes of how we bring wedding flowers to life.

The Final Consultation (6–8 Weeks Before Your Wedding)

About two months before your wedding, we’ll meet for a detailed consultation. By this stage, you already About two months before your wedding, we meet for a detailed consultation. By this stage, you already have your floral concept board—a visual guide we’ve refined together to reflect your mood, palette, and style.

This is the meeting where we lock everything in:

  • Logistics (timelines, delivery locations, and venue access)
  • Priorities (your must-have elements vs. “nice-to-haves”)
  • Details (bouquet sizes, ceremony focal points, reception styling)

This timing is the sweet spot for final decisions. Too early, and seasonal availability can shift; too late, and growers may not have enough time to reserve the best flowers for your day.

Sourcing the Freshest, In-Season Flowers

Once we confirm the brief, we get to work sourcing. First, we start conversations with our trusted Melbourne flower growers about a month before your wedding. By securing blooms early, we can reserve the best of what’s in season.

Then, the week of your wedding begins long before the sun rises. On sourcing days, we’re often up at 2am, heading straight to the Melbourne Flower Market to hand-select the freshest blooms. This is where years of experience and trusted relationships with growers really matter—we know which varieties will open beautifully, which need more time to condition, and which to leave behind.

After the market, the day often continues with travelling across Victoria to collect directly from local flower farms. In fact, this step is one of the most rewarding parts of the process—meeting the growers, seeing what’s in bloom that week, and choosing flowers straight from the field. By sourcing this way, we’re not only supporting local growers but also ensuring your wedding flowers are at their absolute peak when they arrive at our studio. We don’t just order stems—we work with growers who know how to pick at the right stage of bloom, so your flowers are at their peak on your wedding day.

Altogether, the flowers you see on your wedding day often started their journey days earlier, travelling from farms and markets, through conditioning in the studio, before becoming the designs you walk down the aisle with.

Studio Prep & Floral Design

Once the flowers arrive at our studio, we begin conditioning them. We carefully trim, hydrate, and store each bloom to maximise longevity. Meanwhile, the studio comes alive with fragrance and colour as we design:

  • Bouquets: balanced yet natural, always with that relaxed, garden-inspired style Estúdyo is known for.
  • Centrepieces: designed for both beauty and conversation flow across tables.
  • Installations: arches, hanging features, or ground meadows, constructed with both engineering and artistry in mind.

Just as importantly, conditioning and storage matter as much as design. After all, a poorly hydrated bloom won’t last the day—professional floristry is as much science as it is art.

🍃What You Don’t Often See

  • We trial bouquets multiple times to perfect their proportions.
  • Large installations can take hours and often require structural mechanics we hide beneath the flowers.
  • We also test placement and lighting to make sure flowers photograph beautifully from every angle.

Wedding Day Logistics

On the morning of your wedding, precision takes over and we play a game called Van Tetris. Every arrangement is packed securely into our van, with cooling methods in place to protect delicate blooms—vital during Melbourne’s unpredictable summers.

On-Site Set-Up & Final Touches

First, we arrive early at your venue to begin set-up. This is where vision turns into reality:

  • We build ceremony spaces first, creating the backdrop for your vows.
  • Next, reception flowers follow, and we style them in sync with lighting, linens, and décor.
  • Finally, we hand-deliver your bouquets—often one of our favourite moments.

Once we’ve placed everything, we step back and let the flowers speak for themselves. That said, we remain close by for any tweaks, then return at the end of the night (or the next morning) to pack down and collect rentals, leaving the venue as spotless as we found it.

In short, wedding floristry isn’t just arranging flowers—it’s managing logistics, construction, and timing. The beauty you see on the day is the result of layers of planning and execution.

Why This Process Matters

Behind every effortless arrangement is careful sourcing, expert conditioning, and creative design. Above all, at Estúdyo, we’re more than just wedding florists—we’re storytellers, planners, and collaborators with local growers across Victoria.

By focusing on in-season Australian flowers, thoughtful logistics, and design expertise, we ensure your wedding florals not only look breathtaking but also feel deeply personal.

So, no matter the setting—an elegant Melbourne ballroom or a Yarra Valley estate—we design our approach to let your flowers tell the story alongside your memories.

Ultimately, your flowers deserve the same care as every other part of your wedding. Reach out to begin planning with a Melbourne wedding florist who values seasonality, design, and detail.
